Cooperation Between Japan and Sao Tome and Principe
The cooperation between Japan and São Tomé and Príncipe has a longstanding history and encompasses a wide range of sectors, including education, health, fisheries, agriculture, food security, and institutional capacity building. Recently, this collaboration in the business sector has gained significant momentum, with both parties demonstrating a commitment to enhancing the presence of Japanese companies and brands within São Tomé and Príncipe. Café Tanaka
Café Tanaka was established with the vision of bringing the charm of São Tomé and Príncipe's cocoa to Japan. In 2019, the company launched its own cocoa farm in São Tomé and Príncipe to preserve native cocoa varieties and enhance their quality for distribution in Japan. Additionally, Café Tanaka is committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 1, 2, 5, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 17) and has been supporting local women by providing financial and material assistance. This support aims to help women who rely on agriculture for their livelihoods improve their incomes.
